ARGYLE DIAMONDS - Wellness Assessment Program

Argyle currently operates an open pit mine to recover diamonds from the AK1 lamproite pipe. In addition, alluvial mining has been an important part of Argyle's history. Commencing in 1983 the alluvial operations involved the mining of ancient creek beds where diamonds have been washed down over millions of years. Today the Argyle mining operation comprises an open pit which will continue until around 2010. The ore body continues at depth, and for this reason an underground mine is being developed that will extend the life of the mine to at least 2018.

We worked primarily with the Health, Safety & Environment team helping to establish the Wellness Assessment Program for onsite staff.  This Program was set up to increase health awareness and offer an assessment to assist with weight loss, improvement in general eating and drinking and partake in regular exercise onsite.

We created two characters "Nev" and "Von", who we categorised as 'obese'.  Throughout the course of the program (Over the course of 18 months) these characters would lose weight and exposed them on all printed material including posters, booklets, sticky pads and life size cut-out figures.  Workers on site became familiar with the character's goals to get fit and lose weight.  The program continues to encourage a change in lifestyle for many Argyle employees.
